The Train Station, the Ball Gown, and the Blackpool Beach

In my head right now is Homecoming by Kanye West.  I love the piano in that song, triumphant, yet wistful.  That seems to be what the song is about, which is probably why I like it so much.  That and the fact Chris Martin is trying his voice at hiphop.  Doesn’t get any better than this!

I’ve decided (because I’ve been in a good decision-making mood of late) that I’m going to pospone my latest video project until I’ve got the resources to make it really good.  So far I am lacking the following:

  1. A completed backing track
  2. A portable video camera with tripod and appropriate wires for transfer from DV tape
  3. A cameraman with artistic vision
  4. Weather suitable for beach filming

I have, however, got a few good ideas for how I would film it.  It involves Preston railway station, my brown and gold ball gown, and Blackpool/Bispham beach.  Infer what you will… the way arty videos are going these days, you might just be right!

It’s a bit disappointing that I wasn’t able to do it all the way I wanted, but at the end of the day, I’d much rather have an amazing, high quality product to give to the masses, than a video of me prancing around my living room unconvincingly to a comparitively over-produced song.

My future music videos will be just me and the one instrument, singing the basic, stripped down music that I started with in the beginning.  That seems to be the best format for YouTube at the moment, the ‘just me and my guitar’ approach.  That’s ok by me, though, I can bang vids like that out in a day.  What I really want to do right now is another video blog.  My old one has been up there so long, it’s got up to 100 plays.  I’m convinced not as many people watched that one because the freeze frame YouTube selected didn’t look so flattering.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, it’s all about image in this biz.
